finding help for agorapbia and dentist

Hello

I found a free dental clinic around your area. I know it is hard when anxiety gets in the way of doing things. Been there but I am glad I don't have the panic attacks anymore. See if the below can help you with your teeth

Good luck

Techniques to fight anxiety

I have to go to the dentist on August 5th.  I'm trying really hard not to work myself up about it.  It is a mile outside of my comfort zone and I will probably have to spend an hour there.  This is something I have not done in 8 years.  When I get outside my comfort zone I start shaking and tearing up.  No matter how much I try to redirect my thoughts and focus, I end up loosing it.  The techniques I use are: positive thoughts, rubber band on my wrist, mp3 player, book for reading, and my deep breathing exercises.  I was wondering if any of you who might suffer from agoraphobia or anxiety disorders might have some techniques I haven't thought of.  I just really want to go and accomplish this task.

 in response to adamnsd...

I know many insurance companies are now offering phone counseling in the form of Behavior Health or Wellness coaching. United Health Care has a program which most people in their plans can use. I think Blue Cross and the other big ones have these programs are in the process of starting them.

This is also one of the iniative proposed with the Obama Healthcare plan. Perhaps you could call your isurance company and see if they have a similar program. Many isurance companies are coming to realize its cheaper to keep someone well than to treat them after they are in really bad health. This may be an option for some of you who can't leave the house. Even if you don't have a phone, you have Internet so you can use something like Skype to make the phone calls with.

Aidpage group discussing "Agoraphobia"...

My name is Adam and I live in San Diego, CA. I have had Agoraphobia and generalized anxiety disorder now for almost 8 years. I am 32 now. I have been through a lot with it but have learned ALOT as well.  I have a lot of knowledge about SSDI, government programs to help with expenses, housing , education and even re-employment. I also have a lot of knowledge on treatments both traditional and those that are more holistic.  If you have questions, I may have some suggestions.  I will put myself out there to help others as I wish I had someone to help me when I was going through this and had to figure it all out for myself. You can email me at adamnsd@cox.net.

Hi, Thresa.  I went through a long battle with panic attacks and agoraphobia and got a lot of help from an online support group at http://www.panicsupport4u.com/  They have a great reading list and web site.  Since you ahve insurance you may be able to get phone counseling until you feel ready to go to a session in person.  You can and will overcome this and get your life back if you are wiling to do the work.  Take a lot of deep calming breaths and go step outside your front door.  If that is too much, at least go open a window but start taking baby steps toward your recovery.  Best wishes, Rosie

in response to ThresaJones...   Thresa,  I think what you need to do is get out of the house.  I don't care where you go,  or who you go with,  you need to leave the house,  at least once of everyday,  if you are asking for my help,  that's exactly what I would tell you to do and it's costing you a lot less over the internet.  Just go,  right now,  go put some clothes on,  shower,  do whatever you need to do,  go get a haircut,  get your nails done,  go tanning,  go shopping,  go just drive around!  GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!  Find someone to help you go,  someonet that'll drive,  go to the park,  aanywhere... GO!

Reply to ThresaJones:---You have heart wrenching story and no you are not alone. You are right, there are millions of people like you and hopefully some of them will read your post on this aidpage. Why haven't you written your doctor a letter like this? You need to be in the hands of professionals that do know how to help you. You must go out to see a doctor at least once a month, have you told him what you have just told us? I don't know of a medical professional that wouldn't respond to what your going through. Why hasn't your husband talked to someone about getting you help? I do know the hopelessness you feel, I was house bound for 2 years because of agoraphobia and I understand the raw fear. You sound like a very intelligent person so what I don't understand is why haven't you used your computer to contact your own medical people. Send your Doctor this post. You said you are bi-polar, are you experiencing a high now or are you controlled with meds?Do you have any children that could get you to someone to halp you. If you want I can give you a few names of other aidpage angels, you will be able to get so much more info from their pages or from them directly. WhoKnew   Ekikaseven  Elaine of TSA and friendshelpingfriends   if you don't see their names on the main page just type it in the google window at the top of the page. Please know you are not alone, ever, I care about you, we all care about you so just hang in there with us and we will help you as much as we can.  sincerely sheshe

Agoraphobic facing eviction

I work from home as a virtual assistant. I make $9.00 per hour at this, working part-time (20 hours a week). I also occasionally win job bids on places like oDesk and (very rarely) can pick up some odd typing jobs on craigslist. However I can't make ends meet and I am facing eviction.

I've sold about all that I can part with and getting a roommate isn't an option. I am terrified to go apply for any kind of disability or government help. Not only because the idea of heading down to social services and talking to a stranger about my problems is daunting, but I would also be ashamed to admit that I can't take care of my financial needs right now.

Does anyone have any advice or personal experience? I'm evicted on the 15th and I'm running out of ideas.

Feel free to participate in this public group space.

Two easy ways to do this:

  1. Add a comment or a question here - on this page... or on any other page in this space.
  2. Or, if you want to start a separate thread - make a new page.

Either way is good - the important thing is your participation. On Aidpage, people support each other by speaking out and by paying attention to each other - as simple as that.

Agoraphobia....Please help

I have read some of the posts,And I feel somewhat selfish asking for help myself. I have Agoraphobia and it is almost impossible for me to leave my house,When I do its not more than a couple of blocks away from my house. I have been homebound for many years now. And I am in need of dental work done. My husband has saved money for me to get my teeth fixed when I am able to get out but I still cant. I need a dentist who is willing to work with me so that I can be asleep before I leave my home and asleep until I get back home. Is that possible??? Im not even sure if it can be done. I just know I am tired of hurting all the time and having toothaches all the time. I dont smile and I feel ashamed but theres nothing I can do about it. So any advice would be greatful. Thank you so much

I am A 31 year old diabled man. I suffer from Agoraphobia and Bipolar disorder. Beacuse of my disability I cannot attend a regular college and I need to take online courses. I found a very good school with courses in the field I want to study but, I cannot get enough funding. The course costs approx $65,000 and I can only get enough federal funding for about $16,000. I have tried to search for other help but cannot find anything.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. I do not know what else to do. All I want to do is get into a feild where I can contribute in some way even if I have to work from home! I feel so useless without a purpose.
